Girlfriend Collective is an eco-friendly apparel brand with a strong use of recycled textiles and natural fabrics. Girlfriend Collective is resolutely against careless and unsustainable fast fashion. This brand produces only timeless styles in limited runs, and seldomly re-stocks items; unless there is a large and precise customer demand for it. Additionally, to help combat fashion waste from their brand specifically, they have created their own recycling program titled ReGirlfriend. This program gives consumers financial and environmental incentive to recycle their used merchandise through Girlfriend Collective instead of simply throwing it away.
Girlfriend Collective also only uses environmentally responsible dyes that have been Oeko-Tex Certified safe. And following the dyeing process, the water is treated thoroughly and the secondary dye mud is removed and collected for creating paving stones and sidewalks for the community.
This brand equally takes special environmental care when it comes to their shipping methods. Girlfriend Collective does ship internationally, however, they regulate the distance clothes need to travel by cutting out intermediary fulfillment facilities. Instead, this brand consolidates everything first into their fulfillment center close to their factory and then directly ships to the customers. This shipping technique may take more time, but results in fewer air miles flown and thus saves 53 lbs. of CO2 from going into the atmosphere per air mile. All of Girlfriend Collective’s packaging is fully re-useable and made from earth friendly recycled plastics as well.
Girlfriend Collective donates a percentage from all Lite Collection (apparel made from recycled fishing nets and recycled nylon) sales to Healthy Seas, who work in collaboration with Ghost Diving. Both of these organizations specialize in ocean clean-ups and removal of marine debris and pollution. Through this multi-layered partnership, over 12,462 lbs. of fishing nets have been removed from various oceans worldwide.

Girlfriend Collective produces their finished merchandise in Hanoi, Vietnam, in a SA8000 Certified factory. Similar to the Fair Trade Certification, the SA8000 Certification (developed by Social Accountability International) means that workers are paid fairly, treated justly, and have protected rights like the right to a safe workplace and paid sick leave. Girlfriend Collective manufactures the textiles for their products in an ethical and eco-friendly facility in Taiwan. Furthermore, both of these factories are regularly audited by an external group, ensuring worker’s rights are being respected correctly.
