Nudie Jeans is a Swedish based denim brand that sells menswear, womenswear, kidswear, and accessory items such as belts and hats. Nudie Jeans uses 94% cotton fibers in all of their denim products. Nudie Jeans only utilizes organic, Fairtrade or recycled cotton, in order to minimize their environmental impact. The organic cotton used for their merchandise is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS), the Organic Content Standard 100 (OCS 100), or the US Department of Agriculture (USDA Organic) based on the origin and supplier. All cotton used by Nudie Jeans is sourced in India through Chetna Organic. This cotton is both Fairtrade and GOTS certified.
Nudie Jeans uses pieces of recycled cotton textiles from pre-loved and used denim products instead of recycling the cotton fibers individually; which would drive up prices as well as overhead costs for the labor intensity of this process.
Nudie Jeans also offers a repair and resell service, in addition to a recycling opportunity for its customers. These options give customers beneficial alternatives to simply throwing items away after damage or sizing problems. By offering customers these possible choices, Nudie Jeans greatly reduces the amount of their products that will end up in a landfill. By achieving this, Nudie Jeans has created a sustainable fashion loop that strongly embraces circular design and avoids the damaging aftermath of many fast-fashion brands’ post-purchase pollution.
Nudie Jeans also utilizes TENCEL™ Lyocell in their dress shirts and t-shirts. TENCEL™ Lyocell is a vegan friendly and sustainable textile made in a closed loop process from the pulp of trees. This tree pulp comes from ecologically managed forests in: South Africa, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Scandinavia, Russia, USA, and Poland, and have received PEFC and FSC certifications. TENCEL™ Lyocell has also been certified to be both biodegradable and compostable according to TÜV Austria Belgium NV.
Additionally Nudie Jeans only incorporates sustainable vegetable tanned leathers into their accessory items. These vegetable tanned leathers are tanned most often with tree bark and have the longest longevity and durability of any real leather currently on the market, making it extremely sustainable.
Lastly, Nudie Jeans, at the present time offsets all of their carbon emissions through the United Nations’ Carbon Offset Platform.
